Chapter 5 – Page 112

Finally figured out how to reimport the character tags from the pre-Toocheke era of the comic, but that also means I have to carve out some time to retag all the post-Toocheke pages. Hooray!

How the Sausage is Made

Shout out to long-time reader/commenter LordCastigator for expressing curiosity about this; I’ve mentioned in the past that several designs in this comic are derived from LEGO models, including most of the ships, the Legion, and Dan’s Wraith. I generally start with prelim sketches on paper to nail down the basic shapes of the designs before modeling them in a now-deprecated piece of software called Lego Digital Designer.

(Dan’s Wraith as it appears in LDD)

Using the completed models, I’m able to pose them in any which way for final layout in a companion program called Bricklink Studio, which allows me finer control over camera positioning, field of view, etc. The renders are then imported into my workspace in Adobe Animate where they form the backbone of my general page layouts and sketchwork prior to inking like so:

Incidentally, if you want to see these pre-color inked pages a day before the full page comes out, and support the comic at the same time, consider subscribing to the Patreon! All proceeds from that and my Ko-Fi go toward keeping this comic going (and keeping me fed).

RSS Feed fixed

It turns out Toocheke changed the way its feeds work so I’ve fixed the menu link to point to the correct feed for comics. If you’ve been trying to get comic updates via RSS, you’ll have to update the link to this one: https://adistantsky.com/comic/feed/

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience!

Page Delay

Well folks, it finally happened. For the first time since I switched over to Adobe Animate from Flash CS5.5, my software ate a project file. Thankfully, I have a recovery file so the whole thing wasn’t lost, but it does mean that Chapter 3 – Page 17 will have to go up on Thursday the 18th, rather than Wednesday as planned. Sorry for the delay, we should be back on our regularly scheduled program soon!
